The Second Appeal-St. George Church News August 2017

As you recall from our “St. George Church News” in June, the Diocese had issued a second decree to close the church for worship and remove the stained glass windows, sacred and non-sacred items and anything of value from the church.

The first time this happened, in January, 2016, parishioners filed an appeal and the Vatican ruled in favor of the parishioners. That appeal took about 6 months to process.

Now we are appealing this latest decree of June, 2017 by the Diocese. After weeks of gathering documents and preparing attachments, this latest appeal has been sent to the Vatican for processing. We expect that a decision on this new appeal will also take about 6 months.

In the meantime, while we wait for the decision, we'll continue to keep our 1200 contacts updated and we'll bolster the resources of the St. George Church Preservation Society (SGCPS).

With the help of the St. George Family and supporters, we'll be ready to provide for the care and restoration of church. There are over 60 Catholic churches in other dioceses that are being cared for by separate organizations that are similar to SGCPS.

We thank everyone for your continued support and encouragement as we work our way along this path to success.

Please pray for a positive decision for the future of our church.

Sincerely,
Parishioners & SGCPS
