SGCPS Plans for the Future

KEEPING OUR COMMUNITY CONNECTED & PRESERVING OUR LEGACY

Dear St. George Community:

As we mentioned in our last letter after the disappointing Vatican decision on our appeal, we reached out again to Bishop Zubik in November to try to “bridge the gap” and reach an agreement to restore St. George Church at no cost to the Diocese.

Unfortunately we recently received a response from the Diocese that declined our request.

Even though we were not able to reach an agreement to restore the church, we will continue to advocate for the historic status of the church that is on hold at Pittsburgh City Council due to a Federal injunction by Bishop Zubik.

We will also continue our efforts to keep our St. George Community connected and preserve our heritage and legacy. We'll organize occasional fellowship events, preserve the artifacts, trophies and archives that we have in storage, and we'll provide keepsake items for sale in the St. George Store.

With input from our major donors, we will begin the process of donating the Restoration Fund proceeds to selected charities.

Our separate Operating Fund will be maintained to cover the continuing operating costs of SGCPS such as our storage locker, insurance, printing, postage, bookkeeping, PO box, etc. and our affiliation with the Heinz History Center.

If you have any questions, please contact us.

Take care & God Bless,
The SGCPS Leadership Team.
