St. George WWII Monument

On Saturday, July 6, 2024, a dedication ceremony was held for the new St. George WWII Monument. It is located in the St. George section of St. John Vianney Cemetery in Carrick.

The monument plaque was created by renowned sculptor Frank Vittor in 1947 and was placed on the front of St. George Church. It includes 1,017 names of St. George parishioners who served in WWII of whom 35 lost their lives.

The National Anthem was sung by Tom Wilding, the Invocation by Fr. Dan Valentine, and the rifle volley, playing of Taps and folding the flag by American Legion 935. After the unveiling, the flag was presented to WWII Veteran, Merchant Marine, Howard Pfeifer.

Over 100 veterans, parishioners, alumni and Allentown neighbors attended.

After the ceremony, there was a fellowship reception at th Mary, Queen of Peace Parish Hall.
