WORKING TO KEEP OUR COMMUNITY CONNECTED & PRESERVE OUR HERITAGE Dear St. George Family & Supporters: After years of waiting patiently, we have finally received a decision on our parishioners' Vatican appeal of the closing of St. George Church (St. John Vianney).   The Apostolic Signatura (Supreme Court) has rejected our appeal of Bishop Zubik's decree to close and dismantle the church. While we are disappointed with this decision, we will once again reach out to Bishop Zubik and try to reach an agreement.   In the past, our group of dedicated parishioners has reached out to Bishop Zubik with proposals to repair, restore and care for the church at no cost to the Diocese. These proposals are similar to successful agreements in other Dioceses. We were advised by the Diocese to wait until the Vatican appeal has been decided. Our successful St. George Spaghetti Dinner III The St. George Family & Friends gathered at St. Pius X Auditorium in Carrick for Spaghetti Dinner III. The crowd was excited and appreciative for this opportunity to gather and reminisce and there were many compliments for the fun event and good food. Cake made by Margie Sammel   In addition to the Door Prizes, Chinese Auction and Raffle, there was a slide show of St. George photos, a display of the St. George WWII memorial and the St. George trophies. Guests also gathered around the replica St. George Statue for photos.   The St. George Store had items for sale including mugs and the 1960s sketch by artist Calvin Lynch.   Thank You The volunteers at the St. George Church Preservation Society would like to thank everyone for coming to this special event and for your generosity, encouragement and support. To all Alumni, Friends,  Neighbors, Supporters and Parishioners of St. George and  St. John Vianney:   HAPPY NEW YEAR TO OUR ST. GEORGE FAMILY! UPDATES  & 2021 IN REVIEW   VATICAN APPEAL Our appeal of the closing of St. George Church (St. John Vianney) advanced to the Apostolic Signatura (Supreme Court) at the Vatican in 2019. Although we expected their final decision in late 2020, the pandemic has added to the delay and we still wait. As we pray for a positive decision from the Vatican court, we can also pray that the Spirit will inspire Bishop Zubik to reconsider his contentious position and embrace our obvious solution. In 2022, we will continue to reach out for an agreement to reopen and restore the Church. With the help of the St. George Family and supporters, we are ready to provide for the care and restoration of the church at no cost to the Diocese.
