To all Friends, Neighbors, Supporters, Alumni, and Parishioners of St. George and St. John Vianney:   HAPPY 2024 TO OUR ST. GEORGE COMMUNITY! ~UPDATES~ VATICAN APPEAL Our original appeal of the closing of St. George Church (St. John Vianney) had advanced to the Apostolic Signatura (Supreme Court) at the Vatican in 2019. Although we expected their final decision in late 2020, the pandemic added to the delay in the long process and we continued to wait. Unfortunately, in November, 2022, we were very disappointed to be notified that the Vatican court had rejected our appeal. Regardless, in 2023 we kept our St. George Community connected and we will continue to organize fellowship events that bring our community together. We will maintain the SGCPS and support our network of over 1,400 contacts. HISTORIC DESIGNATION In light of the Vatican decision, we notified the Pittsburgh Historic Review Commission that the decision may have an effect on the Federal Court injunction. We are waiting...

Veterans Day November 11, 2023 We remember and honor those who served. -St. George Church Preservation Society December 7, 1991                               Photo Credit: Helen Baney, Class of 1942 In partnership with Mary, Queen of Peace Parish and supported by SGCPS, the St. George WWII memorial plaque is presently undergoing extensive repairs & restoration by a dedicated parishioner. Once that process is completed, the plaque will be refinished. A St. George alumnus has volunteered to construct a monument at the Cemetery where the plaque will be respectfully displayed. Please pray for the volunteers and workers who are making this possible. Memorial Day May 29, 2023   We remember and honor those who served. -St. George Church Preservation Society Photo Credit: Helen Baney, Class of 1942 On December 7, 1991 The St. George World War II memorial was restored and rededicated. Inscribed are the names of the 1017 who saw service including the 35 who lost their lives. The memorial is presently in storage by the Diocese.   Our successful St. George Day at the Grove II Sunday, April 23, 2023 (the feast day of St. George)   The St. George & Allentown Community gathered on the feast day of St. George at the historic Linden Grove Nightclub for a memorable event. The sold-out crowd was excited and appreciative for this opportunity to gather and reminisce and there were many compliments for the fun event and good food. Cake made by Margie Sammel In addition to music by D.J. Tim, Door Prizes, Chinese Auction and Raffle, there was a slide show of St. George photos, a selection of yearbooks, a display of the St. George WWII memorial and St. George trophies. Guests also gathered around the replica St. George Statue for photos.  Guests also shopped at the St. George Store for mugs, Allentown History Books, and the 1960s St. George sketch by artist Calvin Lynch.
